ED-1000 is a new therapy to treat and potentially cure erectile dysfunction (ED), without the use of medication. It is a treatment that uses low-intensity shockwaves to create new blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow to the penis. This technology has been used since the 1980’s and has been used safely and effectively in different areas of medicine, for example, treatment of kidney stones and heart failure. In this case, shockwaves are focused directly on the penile area to create new blood vessels that lead to the return of erections.
Is it safe?
ED-1000 is a safe and painless treatment that does not involve any sedation, medication or other preparation prior to the appointment. Patients report that they feel a “gentle tapping” sensation during the treatment.
No significant side effects have been reported to date. After the procedure, patients are able to carry on normally with the rest of their daily activities.
How long does the treatment last?
A complete treatment cycle is comprised of 12 x 30-minute appointments over 9 weeks. The first half of the cycle involves twice weekly appointments for 3 consecutive weeks.
Following the first cycle, there is a 3-week break without any treatment.
The second part of the cycle then follows the same format as the first part – twice weekly appointments for 3 weeks. A final 30-minute consultation will take place 3 weeks later in order to reassess your erectile function.
When will I start to notice any effect – and how long does it last?
Evidence so far has shown that some patients have noticed an improvement in their symptoms as soon as 3 weeks after starting the treatment.
Studies are currently being published that suggest that treatment is still effective 2 years post-treatment and have shown that around half of men treated with ED-1000 no longer need to use ED medications. A further 25% of men only need to use ED medications occasionally following treatment. There is currently no evidence to suggest that the treatment needs repeating, however, ED-1000 is safe and can be repeated if necessary.
What if I have severe ED?
Up until now, men suffering from severe ED have not been able to use medications for their symptoms, instead relying on other options such as vacuum pumps, injections and implants. Treatment with ED-1000 in this group has shown that many patients (up to 73%) can become responsive to use of ED medications such as sildenafil (Viagra) and other similar medications.
Does it work for everyone?
Not all types of ED respond to this treatment. This is why our initial assessment aims to identify which patients will most likely benefit from ED1000 treatment. Most evidence shows that men suffering from a vascular type of ED are the ones who are most likely to respond to ED1000 treatment.
