Whether you have symptoms that you are concerned about or simply want a routine sexual health screen, ROC Private Clinic is equipped to test for all sexually transmitted infections (STI).

Why choose us?

Our clinics in London and Aberdeen are run by doctors (GPs) and we pride ourselves on being a non-judgemental, approachable and friendly team with a lot of experience in managing sexual health diseases in a discrete, private consultation.

We are able to look at your concerns in the context of your general health, investigate and treat conditions in a way that is appropriate and personalised to you.

The clinic provides fast and highly accurate interpretation of results, as well as other more in-depth testing for a wide variety of sexual health related conditions for men, women and transgender people alike.

What can you expect in our sexual health clinic?

After being greeted by our friendly reception staff and offered a drink, you will be seen by an experienced GP.

The GP will take a routine thorough sexual health history and then offer you a few test options, explaining the differences between them and advising on which tests would be the most appropriate according to the time of presentation following possible STI exposure.

Tests range from urine samples, swabs and blood tests, all taken by our expert GPs.

Your results can then be fed back to you by whichever communication method you prefer (telephone / e-mail / post / collect in person) and we will provide you with treatment if you test positive to an STI or arrange a referral if required to our network of Harley Street Specialists.

Conditions that we test for include:

Blood-borne STIs

HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C

We can offer testing from as early as 10 days after possible exposure, using PCR Early Detection.

We offer vaccination against Hepatitis B

We offer testing and prescriptions of Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV in people at risk.

A bacterial infection that can cause serious problems if left untreated. It is treated with antibiotics.

Common STIs

Chlamydia Trachomatis

Bacterial infection that can be diagnosed from a urine sample, swab (or smear test in women).

The most common, curable STI in the UK.

Often shows no symptoms and can have serious repercussions if untreated.

It is treated with antibiotics.

Gonorrhoea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae)

Bacterial infection that can be diagnosed from a urine sample, swab (or smear test in women).

Often causes lots of vaginal or penile discharge.

Can cause serious and permanent health conditions if not treated.

It is treated with antibiotics.

Mycoplasma Genitalium

Bacterial infection that is detectable only by specific testing of a urine, swab (or smear test in women).

Mycoplasma is not always routinely tested for in other sexual health screens as it is a relatively ‘new STI’ but is an established cause of genital symptoms that are treatable, so we always offer this test at ROC.

It is treated with antibiotics.

Trichomonas Vaginalis

This parasite is frequently found as a co-infection with other STIs and increases the risk of HIV transmission in males and females.

It is treated with antibiotics.

Herpes Simplex 1 & 2

Caused by a virus that lives in the nerves and can recurrently manifest with painful blisters in the mouth (cold sores) or the genitals.

Although there is no cure, the symptoms can be managed with antiviral medications.

Other important infections we test for

Ureaplasma Urealyticum

This bacteria is usually a normal part of the genital flora and is commonly found in sexually active humans.

It can however cause pelvic inflammatory disease and also impacts on sperm motility.

It can be treated with antibiotics.

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and genital warts

There are >150 different subtypes of HPV, some of which cause genital warts and a few that can cause genital cancers such as cervical and penile cancer.

At ROC we can test for HPV and also confirm which subtype(s) it is.

There is no treatment for HPV, however for women routine smear tests offer  good screening for cervical cancer and we offer annual smear tests here at ROC.

We also can vaccinate men and women with Gardasil9, a HPV vaccine that offers protection against the 9 most common cancer-causing HPV subtypes and genital wart subtypes.

Gardnerella Vaginalis

This bacteria is not technically a sexually transmitted infection however it results in Bacterial Vaginosis/BV which causes unpleasant vaginal discharge, as well as increasing the risk of catching other STIs.

It can be treated with antibiotics.

If you would like to know more about PrEP HIV therapy and counselling at our Sexual Health Clinic do not hesitate to contact us for more information.
