ROC Clinic provides a specialist varicose veins assessment and minimally invasive treatments.
The service is provided by Mr Paul Bachoo, Consultant Vascular Surgeon with extensive experience in minimally invasive techniques for treatment of varicose veins. He is currently the only Vascular Surgeon in Aberdeenshire to have experience with a new minimally invasive, non-thermal technology for varicose veins.
What Are Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are knobbly, enlarged veins that most commonly occur in legs and feet. When a vein becomes varicose, the valves that prevent the blood flowing backwards are not working anymore.
Varicose veins are unsightly, can be painful and may lead to leg swelling and skin changes. Although a benign condition the symptoms tend to be lifelong.
The cause of varicose veins is complex.
The aim of varicose veins treatment is to seal the affected vein. By closing it, the vein shrinks, the appearance improves and associated symptoms such as pain, discomfort, swelling disappear.
Nowadays all treatments are walk-in-walk-out minimally invasive treatments. However, some varicose vein treatments are associated with pain, bruising, some require multiple anaesthetic injections.
At ROC we offer a full range of treatments but we specialize in innovative minimally invasive techniques like Clarivein and Variclose.
The type of treatment employed in your case will depend on your particular presentation and will be a decision that you and the surgeon will share.
What is Clarivein Treatment?
Clarivein treatment is a minimally invasive treatment that uses rotating movements and spraying of a substance via a catheter introduced in the vein.
The catheter is introduced under ultrasound guidance.
As it does not use heat as means of closing the varicose vein, you will experience no complications usually associated with this type of treatment, such as nerve damage, skin damage, pain and bruising.
The procedure takes place in the outpatient clinic and you are expected to return to your daily activities the same day.
What is Variclose Treatment
Variclose treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that eliminates any complications usually arising from using heat as a means of treatment such as nerve damage, burns, bruising.
The procedure does not require hospital admission and is undertaken in the outpatient clinic. The doctor will use an ultrasound machine to guide the treatment which consists of injecting a substance to close the varicose veins.
You will be able to return to work and your daily routines immediately.
